"Ab Fab, sweetie darling."
I was watching Wedding Bell Blues the other day and this quote caught my attention:
EMILY: It's going to be fabulous. Isn't it, Lorelai?
LORELAI: Ab Fab, sweetie darling.
.
.
.
All of a sudden it struck me as a great quote, easy to use and fun to look up...
It was!
Absolutely Fabulous
It comes from Absolutely Fabulous, a UK sitcom that ran from 1992 to 2012. It's about 2 "fancy" women who drink a lot!
I was happy to recognize a face from Friends in there; Jennifer Saunders plays Emily's stepmother in the London episodes.

.
So Lorelai's quote is a mash-up of the informal short title of the show, "Ab Fab", and the expression "Sweetie Darling" that the main characters say a lot!
I love how Lorelai's brain works! She hears the word "fabulous" and it goes directly to a funny, edgy quote from a British show...
Oooooh it's a script, I know. But I wish I was this witty! 🤣
"Definitely not a soulmate"
Lorelai mentions the British show another time in season 2, Episode 9 - Run Away, Little Boy, when she dates the really young looking guy:
You know, we talked about all the things we had in common and then the salad came.
RORY: Not a soulmate?
LORELAI: He's never seen Ab Fab.
RORY: Definitely not a soulmate.
For some reason, I don't really picture Luke watching Ab Fab either... 🤔🤣

Have an absolutely fabulous day, sweetie darling!
